Governor Bentley offers reward for information leading to arrest of suspected rapist

CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – Alabama Governor Robert Bentley is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and capture of an suspected rapist in East Alabama. Investigators say the man is responsible for at least two incidents, both involving senior citizens.

The first incident happened in July of 2012 and the second in July of 2013. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Matthew Wade says an elderly female told authorities in July of 2012 that a male followed her home on a Sunday afternoon and sexually assaulted her in her yard.

Wade says the second incident happened a year later in northern Talladega County. A senior adult female told authorities she was sexually assaulted after she was followed to her residence by the suspect. Investigators believe the attacker in both incidents is the same man.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says the public needs to be reminded to stay aware of their surroundings, as both victims were followed from public places to their residences.

Anyone with information pertaining to the case or the man’s identity is asked to call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at (256) 238-1414.
