Man who led police in car chase is husband of missing woman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Jefferson County investigators are looking for 41-year-old Paula Anne Worcester of Morris who was reported missing by her sister on July 4th.

Tuesday night deputies arrested Worcester’s husband, Joseph Poe III, after he led deputies on a chase through two counties. Poe is Worcester’s husband.

A deputy tried to stop Poe for a traffic violation, but Poe was driving a stolen truck. Deputies used spike strips to flatten Poe’s tires and place him under arrest.

Deputies questioned Poe about his missing wife. He told detectives he had last seen her on June 18th.

Meanwhile, Paula Worcester’s sister, Victoria, talked with WIAT 42 Thursday about her sister’s disappearance. Victoria could not hold back her tears.

“It’s been a nightmare,” Victoria said. “She’s always been the type that if she was going through something, she would call me.”

According to family, Paula was last seen at her stepdaughter’s house in Morris.

“I love her,” Victoria said of her sister. ” (I want) her to please get in touch with someone from her family so we’ll know she’s okay.”
