18-year-old confirmed dead after crashing into Gadsden monument

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT)- The Etowah County Coroner confirmed with WIAT 42 News that a young woman died this morning after crashing head on into the Emma Sansom monument at the intersection of First Street and Broad Street.

Michael Head says 18-year-old Jaquela Robinson was travelling at an estimated speed of 50 miles per hour when her 1989 Chevrolet S-10 truck struck the monument around 3:57 a.m. Saturday.

Robinson was riding alone and was reported to not be wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The accident is still under investigation. There was no damage to the monument.
