Tuscaloosa Co. Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting involving a 16-year-old

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting involving a 16-year-old male that happened on July 15th. The Sheriff’s office and Homicide responded to DCH/Tuscaloosa around 1 p.m. where the victim was brought to the ER by his 21-year-old brother.

The brother stated they were at home on Hillcrest School road, when he asked the victim to go outside and get his pistol from his vehicle. A few minutes later he heard a single shot. When he went out he found the victim lying on the sidewalk. It was later determined that the brother had fired the shot that injured the victim. At this time, it is believed to have been an accident. Investigators continued to talk to family members and examine the scene. No determination has been made, as to what, if any, charges will be filed.

In a release sent out by the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit, it states that the victim was being treated for what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to his abdomen and was to be transported to UAB/Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

This is an ongoing investigation.
