JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT)– A fight between two men left one in critical condition and one in jail Saturday night.

The incident happened in the 1100 block of Morris Majestic Road in northern Jefferson County.  Chief Deputy Randy Christian with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said a fight broke out between the victim and the brother of the victim’s girlfriend after the woman complained that her boyfriend had been verbally abusive to her all day.  The brother had come to the home to confront the boyfriend.

The two argued inside the home, but after a time, the situation calmed down.  The two then went outside and started fighting again, where this time, the brother shot the boyfriend.

The shooting victim, described as a 47-year-old white male, was transported to UAB Hospital in critical condition. The shooter, a 43-year-old white male, was taken into custody at the scene.

Investigators say alcohol was a factor in the shooting.
