MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. (WIAT) – Mountain Brook police say a suspicious person is in police custody following a search Tuesday morning. The search began around 9 a.m. when a suspicious person was seen walking westbound along Highway 280, according to Mountain Brook Police Chief Ted Cook.

Cook says an officer has seen the man at another location and wanted to ask him if he needed assistance. However, when police pulled over, the man jumped over a wall and ran up a steep embankment.

Cook says officers with the department set up a perimeter, and a tactical team responded to the scene and worked into the woods trying to locate the man.

Weapons were drawn and the man was found between 300 and 400 yards from where the incident started.

Mountain Brook police say the man faces misdemeanor charges.
