BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – We are working to learn more Thursday morning about a person of interest being questioned in a fatal shooting at a house near Locust Fork, in Blount County. Preliminary information shows the victim, a 34-year-old man, had been involved in a domestic dispute with a woman who lives in this home early on Wednesday.
Around 3 p.m. Wednesday things escalated when reportedly a young man who also lives at the home got involved and shots were fired.
“Right now were going to treat it as a homicide…until we get through interviewing and the evidence techs get through doing the crime scene,” said Blount County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Pat Thomas.
Thomas later added, “We’ve got a suspect, well I won’t say he’s a suspect. We have someone that we’re talking to that was potentially the one that [did] it, or done the shooting; but until I hear from the investigator from the office I don’t know that answer yet.”
The victim’s name has not been released. There are no arrests or charges in this case at this time. Investigators are still working to determine if this is a case of self-defense.
WIAT 42 will continue to bring you the latest on this developing story as it more information becomes available.
