Attorney for 14-year-old boy from Blount Co. home shooting says client was protecting his mother

LOCUST FORK, Ala. (WIAT) — A long day stretches into the early morning hours of Thursday for investigators in Blount County. They are trying to put together pieces of a puzzle that left one 34-year-old man dead inside a Locust Fork home.

This morning WIAT 42 spoke with attorney Brett King who is representing a 14-year-old boy who was at the house on Wednesday. King says his client’s mother and the 34-year-old man were in a romantic relationship. King said that the 34-year-old showed up to the house when the boy’s mother didn’t want him there. Blount County deputies were called in to remove the man from the property.

King says that man returned to the home and that is when his client intervened. He said he is confident that no charges will be filed. At this time no arrests or charges have been made in this incident. Investigators are still working to determine if this is a case of self-defense. Blount County Sheriff’s Office Captain Pat Thomas says that is a possibility, “It could possibly be self-defense. We’ve just got to get all the pieces put together and look at it and see what we’ve got. But right now it’s just too early to say but we’re going to treat it as a homicide…until we get everything pieced together.”

WIAT 42 will continue to follow this case and bring you the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
