BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Birmingham has been selected to receive funds from the IBM Smarter City Challenge. For the past three weeks, IBM, along with over 70 people and organizations, have researched critical issues impacting the development of the city, like ways to resolve problems with abandoned homes and food deserts.
The group’s core goal is to make Birmingham more livable. Birmingham Mayor William Bell says he wants to transform the city into a place everyone will be proud of in the future.
Birmingham is one of four cities in the county to receive the IBM grant this year.
