BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Texting and driving is the cause for most accidents that happen in Alabama. In a survey conducted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham, over 30 percent of drivers in Alabama admit that they have sent text messages or read emails at least once while behind the wheel.

The research also shows over 3,000 people were killed in crashes involving distracted driving.

Alabama currently has a law prohibiting texting and driving. Drivers polled in the survey were between the ages of 18 and 64.
