BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Summer is slowly coming to a close for area students, and for some that means the end of the summertime tradition of camp.
Camp Coleman in Trussville was back in service this summer after going through several months of inactivity. WIAT 42 News followed the story when the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama (GSNCA) initially decided to permanently close the camp and three others in 2012.
That decision sparked grassroots movement to fix up the camp and keep it open. Campers and counselors WIAT 42 News spoke with say many people had no idea the camp back in business.
Maintenance work is ongoing at the camp. The goal is to have the camp back in order next summer.
