BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Many parents will be shopping ’til they drop this weekend.
The state’s sales tax holiday for back-to-school supplies kicked off at midnight Thursday night and is now in effect.
Just about everything children need for school: notebooks, pens, pencils, and folders. Even computers, clothes, and shoes, can be purchased tax free Friday through Sunday.
The National Retail Federation predicts most families will spend about $600 or more before the first day of school. That total includes basic school supplies, new clothes, shoes, and electronics like computers.
