Police investigating home invasion that ends with suspect shot


BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(WIAT)–  Birmingham Police are investigating a home invasion that ended with the suspect being shot by the resident of the home.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on 6th Avenue South.  Lt. Sean Edwards tells WIAT 42 News that the suspect came to the home earlier in the day, inquiring about a truck at the residence. After talking with the woman who lived in the home, he left.

He returned a short time later and approached the woman who was outside the home. He then forced his way into the home, demanding money from her. She pulled a debit card from her purse, as well as a small handgun from a side pocket, shooting the suspect in the hand.

The man fled the scene and has not been located.  The woman was not injured.
