Jefferson County teen makes smart call to 911

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Jefferson County teen is safe after using his head in a very scary situation.

Police say he ran to his parents’ bedroom and called 911 after someone threw a brick through a window of his home. The incident happened Monday afternoon in the Rock Creek community, just north of Hueytown.

Investigators say the teen was suspicious when he heard a knock at the door and didn’t recognize the person outside.

After he didn’t answer, the brick came through the glass, and the man made entry into the home. Thanks to the call, deputies arrived in time to catch the suspect.

Brandon Sweatt is charged with 2nd degree burglary and 1st degree criminal mischief.
