Bicyclists struck by car in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT)- The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports that two bicyclists were injured Saturday morning while travelling on Highway 31 near Morris Majestic Road.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location around 6:30 a.m. and found the two cyclists who were described as being “critically injured” after being hit by a car. The driver of the car did not have any injuries.

According to deputies, the car that struck the cyclists was travelling south on Highway 31 behind another vehicle. That car quickly changed lanes to go around the cyclists. The driver of the second did not see the cyclists causing the car to strike them from behind.

The cyclists, a 55-year-old male and a 48-year-old male, were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
