Montgomery hearing set for Brown/Smoot challenge

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The challenge over a Jefferson County commission seat is going to Montgomery. In July’s run-off election, district two commissioner Sandra Little Brown defeated challenger Sheila Smoot by 26 votes. Smoot has not conceded the loss. Since then, a challenge over the results was filed by Ervin P. Hill. The local Democratic party has refused to hear that challenge. That’s led Hill to appeal to the state Democratic party. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12th at 2pm at the AEA headquarters in Montgomery.
