Background noise may not be healthy homework habit

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Many kids use electronics to complete homework.

Educators, however, believe that electronics can actually be more distracting than helpful, especially when they’re being used as background noise, like a television or radio.

So what are some things you can do to help your student get the most out of homework?

You should provide a consistent workspace. It can be a desk or kitchen table. Wherever the space is, it should be free from distractions.

And if electronics are needed to complete the task, experts say parents should be on hand to monitor internet use. Because if you’re around, you can keep them on task, as well as answer any questions they may have.
