Ala. man sentenced in parents’ shooting deaths

RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (AP) – A northwest Alabama man has pleaded guilty in his parents’ shooting deaths and has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Michael Joe McLemore appeared in court Wednesday morning and pleaded guilty to two counts of capital murder and two counts of attempted murder in the September 2011 attack on Ricky and Connie Hodge.

The couple lived near Phil Campbell and McLemore was accused of shooting them with a rifle after they wouldn’t give him money.

The attempted murder charges stemmed from McLemore attacking two other people with a hammer.

McLemore was found competent to stand trial in late June after his attorney argued that her client didn’t understand the charges against him.
