BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A man accused of killing a woman as she held her newborn baby is on trial this week in Birmingham. Corderious McLellan is charged with capital murder for the shooting death of Sheri Williams.
The jury began deliberating at 1:30 p.m. and came back into with a question about reckless manslaughter and capital murder at 3:05 p.m. The jury then continued deliberating.
The shooting happened in the Gate City community in May of 2013. Police say Williams was hit by a stray bullet while she was standing in the doorway of her apartment. She was holding her 10-day-old son, who was not hurt in the shooting.
Williams’ family told WIAT 42 News she had dreams of becoming a police officer.
