Tuscaloosa fire chief named Fire Chief of the Year


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – A Tuscaloosa fire chief was announced as a recipient of an international award Wednesday for his work with the Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Department.

Chief Alan J. Martin was announced as one of the 2014 winners of the Fire Chief of the Year awards presented by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Pierce Manufacturing Inc.

Martin will be presented with the award Thursday at the association’s 2014 Fire-Rescue International conference in Dallas.

Martin has served as the fire chief in Tuscaloosa since 2002, but his career in the fire service began in 1974 with the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

His work in Tuscaloosa earned him the recognition as the 2013 Fire Chief of the Year by the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs and the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs.
