BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Governor Robert Bentley visited Birmingham today for a fundraiser with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
During his time in the city, though, Governor Bentley also made time to stop by the WIAT 42 News studio for an interview with Sherri Jackson.
In a very candid interview a variety of topics were discussed.
Immigration was one matter discussed; in particular, the federal government’s plan to bring children to Maxwell Air Force Base as part of the solution in dealing with the numbers of unaccompanied minors who have come into the country illegally.
The governor agrees that at this point it has to be looked at as a humanitarian issue. He said on the issue, “If you see a child that has no parents what are you going to do, someone has to take care of them.” He went on to say, “I don’t think Maxwell Air Force Base is a good place to house these children, because it is not set up for that. It’s like a concentration camp. I don’t think that is the best way to do it.”
