Bessemer optometrist arrested on sex charges in Georgia

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) – A Bessemer optometrist was arrested for a sex crime by authorities in Georgia following a four-month investigation. Jeremy Burns, 38, was arrested on charges through the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1999, according to the Columbia County (Ga.) Sheriff’s Office .

Burns, an optometrist at Eagle Vision Eyecare, according to court documents, allegedly used a social networking app on a smart phone to try to arrange a sexual relationship with an underage girl.

Burns allegedly traveled to meet the underage girl on Aug. 7 but was met by an undercover officer in Lamar County, Georgia.

He was released on bond.
