BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The man accused of killing a woman as she held her newborn baby in Gate City was found guilty of capital murder Thursday.
Corderious McLellan was found guilty in the 2013 shooting death of Sheri Williams. McLellan had pleaded not guilty to the crime.
Williams was hit by a stray bullet while standing in the doorway of her Gate City apartment in May of 2013. She was holding her 10-day-old son at the time of the shooting; he was not hurt.
Williams’ family told WIAT 42 News she had dreams of becoming a police officer.
The jury began deliberating Wednesday and around 1:30 p.m. and came back with a question about reckless manslaughter and capital murder.
The trial continued Thursday as jurors returned a guilty verdict on the capital murder charge.
