Journalists arrested as protests escalate in St. Louis suburb

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) —  The Washington Post has released a video shot by reporter Wesley Lowery just moments before he and Huffington Post reporter, Ryan Reilly, were arrested.

The men say they were in a McDonalds in St. Louis when SWAT officers entered and announced they were closing the business for safety reasons and all had to leave.

Reilly says his head was slammed into a door as he was being arrested, “The mentality of the officers coming into what was a peacefully operating business and then forcefully treating us as enemy combatants, was just very disturbing. And the use of force especially initially seemed to be antagonistic and unnecessary.”

Both men were released around 30 minutes later and will not be charged.
