BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Many around downtown Birmingham saw a sky full of smoke early Friday morning after a large fire broke out near Carraway Boulevard near the 1200 block of 29th Street in north Birmingham.
Fire fighters tell WIAT that the area is where a vacan house was recently demolished that turned into a large trash pile of debris and garbage. Smoke from the fire billowed heavily into the morning sky.
No one was hurt in the fire. There are two homes on either side of the fire. The homeowner of one of the houses says her house only suffered minor fire damage. The other house is vacant. City crews tore that vacant house down while our WIAT 42 News crew was still on the scene. Firefighters say that vacant home had also caught fire recently.
