Man shot in chest after attempted robbery

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A man is in critical condition after police say he was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery.

The shooting happened around 4 AM Friday near the corner of 1st Avenue South and 55th Street South in the Woodlawn community.

Police say paramedics arrived on scene first and found the victim lying in the street. They immediately took him to the hospital.

Based on what a witness saw, police believe two men wearing ski masks attempted to rob the victim before shooting him.

That’s when she says the two men wearing ski masks pulled up in a U-Haul truck, and tried to rob them at gun point. When they told the men they didn’t have much money, she says the suspects shot the man.
