5-year-old in stable condition after Birmingham shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Birmingham police are investigating a shooting that injured a 5-year-old girl in the Kingston area Friday night.

Police responded to the 900 block of 44th Place North before 11 p.m. after receiving calls of shots fired. Lt. Scott Thurmond tells WIAT 42 News that there was an altercation between several individuals inside the home where the child was.

There was a struggle between the persons over a firearm when it was discharged, hitting the child. The child is in stable condition at Children’s Hospital.

There are currently no suspects in custody at this time. Anyone with information should call the Birmingham Police at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
