Fire heavily damages home near Bessemer

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT)– Firefighters from three area fire departments spent late Sunday afternoon battling a house fire near Bessemer.

The fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. on Lindsey Loop Road. When firefighters arrived the structure was fully involved, with fire coming through the roof. Personnel from McAdory, Bessemer, and Eastern Valley fire departments fought the blaze.

Investigators say a woman at the home had a controlled burn going in a burn barrel by her home when gusty winds carried the fire to the deck of the structure. The fire then got into a gas line and spread to the roof. Most personal belongings were salvaged.

Lindsey Loop Road was closed in both directions during the fire, but is now reopened.
