Alabama Power releases statement on fatal helicopter crash

TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Alabama Power released a statement Tuesday evening on the loss of an employee for the company in a fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two people in Tuscaloosa County. The company said the following:

The Alabama Power family is saddened by the death of David Carson, 63, an employee in the Western Division office. David was killed Tuesday morning when the helicopter he was a passenger in crashed in a remote area of Tuscaloosa County. David and the pilot of the helicopter were conducting an aerial inspection of a transmission line. The helicopter was owned and operated by a private contractor, RotorWorks, LLC out of Hiram, Georgia.

David was a Senior Line Specialist and had 44 years of service at Alabama Power. Our thoughts and prayers go out to David’s family during this difficult time.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the McDonnell Douglas 369E helicopter crashed approximately 20 miles northeast of Tuscaloosa at 10:15 a.m.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
