GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) – Gadsden police are investigating a woman’s death and say a 53-year-old man is in custody in connection with the crime. Leon Marbury III was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree hindering prosecution.

Gadsden Police Department spokesman Capt. Bobby Jackson says police were called to the Forest River Apartments Monday morning to conduct a welfare check on 41-year-old Vanessa Christine Lee, who lived with her boyfriend, Marbury.

Jackson says police found evidence that a crime had been committed inside the apartment. Marbury was found within the hour and taken to the department for questioning. He was later arrested and taken to the Etowah County Jail.

Lee’s body was found Monday night off the road near the intersection of Fain Street and Davis Street, Jackson says.

Marbury remains in the Etowah County Jail. Jackson says additional charges are pending.
