Investigative Producer/Digital Meteorologist
David Baxley joined WIAT 42 News in August 2014 as Investigative Producer and Meteorologist. David grew up in Childersburg in Talladega County, and is proud call central Alabama home.
David has over sixteen years of television news experience. During that time, he has worked as a news producer, assignment manager, reporter and meteorologist. David earned his degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University and a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Mississippi. David joined WIAT 42 News from WAKA-TV in Montgomery where he was assignment manager. He began his career as a weather anchor in Tuscaloosa at WJRD-TV (now WVUA). His experience also includes working on the assignment desk at the CBS station in Dallas, Texas, and as Chief Meteorologist at the ABC affiliate in Lawton, Oklahoma.
As Investigative Producer at WIAT 42, David was awarded a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, National Headliner Award, and Alabama Associated Press Award in 2015 for his work on “Letters to Sex Offenders,” a series of investigative stories with WIAT 42’s Sherri Jackson.
David’s first passion, though, will always be weather. He has covered numerous tornado outbreaks in his career, along with occasional hurricanes, winter storms and heat waves. David has won awards from the Alabama Associated Press and Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters for his weathercasts and severe weather broadcasts.
