TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — College campuses aren’t always known for their cleanliness; but WIAT 42 got a look inside the cleanest room at the University of Alabama, the new microfabrication facility.
The brand new facility is where scientists can make very tiny devices that can be applied towards hard to reach areas, like the inside of your computer.
In the facility it is very important the clean bays control any airborne particles, because one micro-device can be destroyed by a dust particle. If a dust particle lands on top of one of the devices it can completely wipe it out.
The lighting in the room is also yellow because some of the polymers being used are sensitive to UV light.
