BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Just after 2:30 PM, police attempted to make a routine traffic stop in the 1900 block of Center Point Road. Upon being pulled over the driver got out of the car and began to flee on foot.
After a brief foot chase, police caught up with 24-year-old Altrice Darone Ragland of Eastlake. After investigation of Ragland’s car, police found that he had left not only fifty bags of heroin, but also a handgun and his four-year-old daughter.
Ragland has been arrested and charged with trafficking heroin, attempting to elude, resisting arrest, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and carrying a pistol without license.
Deputies have attempted to locate the child’s mother but have not been able to do so. She will be placed in protective custody with DHR.
Ragland is being held in the Jefferson County Jail. Bond has not been set yet.
