Matt Pitt indicted on impersonating peace officer charge in Jefferson County

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The youth pastor who founded The Basement ministry in 2004 in Birmingham has been indicted for impersonating an officer in Jefferson County.

Judge Katrina Ross found probably cause to send Matt Pitt’s the case to a grand jury. No hearings have been scheduled yet.

Pitt served eight months in jail for violating probation after he was arrested for impersonating a police officer for a second time.

As a condition of his bond, Pitt was given travel restrictions. At the request of his attorney, the district attorney agreed to lift those restrictions in late June.

His bond is set at $15,000.
