BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – On Tuesday morning, Birmingham police responded to multiple calls at 9:21 to an active shooter at the UPS Customer Service Center.
At the scene, police found three men dead in the warehouse area. Two of the three victims were current UPS employees. Police say they were targeted by the shooter. He was found wearing his UPS uniform. Investigators say he turned the gun on himself.
Witnesses were taken to Boutwell Auditorium for questioning and returned later to go home.
Chief Roper of the Birmingham Police says counseling was provided for UPS employees. Roper was especially concerned about those who witnessed the shootings as they happened. He says, it’s a tragic day Birmingham for so many people.
The shooter was later identified as Joe Tesney. Tensey, Police tell WIAT, had just been fired Monday.
