UA student arrested in connection with social media threats

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – A 20-year-old University of Alabama student has been arrested and charged with obstructing governmental operations, the school said in release Tuesday afternoon.

University of Alabama spokesman Shane Dorrill says Dakota John Timm was arrested after an “alarming message” was posted on Monday, Sept. 22. Timm was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $2,500 bond.

Dorrill says the message is not believed to be associated with a social media post that surfaced Sunday night, sparking the lockdown of Tutwiler Hall.

The FBI and the University of Alabama Police Department are working together to gather information that will help them identify the person or persons responsible for the post which surfaced on Sept. 21.
