BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week has been on the week Oct. 9 falls in to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This year the week begins Oct. 5 and runs through Oct. 11.
Bessemer Fire Department is doing their part to help citizens be safe this winter and “turn your attention to fire prevention”, the theme of the week.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, Bessemer Fire Department will be on hand at DeBardeleben Park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for you to sign up for free smoke detector installation. They will have trucks and equipment on hand so kids can see and interact with their local firemen.
