BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Andres Forero, MD, a physician and scientist at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, discusses the creation of the New Light Support Group.
Funded in part through a community grant from Susan G. Komen North Central Alabama, New Light helps patients with triple-negative breast cancer navigate the healthcare system, and in some cases, provides funds for transportation, meals, and childcare. With the help of passionate local volunteers, New Light hosts special events four times a year for patients and their families, providing expert speakers while giving patients time for fellowship, relaxation, and fun.
Dr. Forero is joined by Kimberly Robinson, Patient Navigator, and Carolyn Maddox, an administrative associate. Dr. Forero, Kym, and Carolyn are active volunteers with New Light; providing this hope, comfort, and support to cancer patients is their passion, and their ministry.
