UAB identifies robbery suspect; reward offered for arrest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UAB police need your help to catch a robbery suspect. The University says it has identified the person responsible for robbing and assaulting four students. Warrants have already been issued for the arrest of Roderick Bernard Gaston, with bond set at $3 million. Police say he robbed the two male and two female students in a parking deck near the intersection of 16th Street and 10th Avenue late Monday night. One shot was fired, but no one was hit.


UAB President Ray Watts sent out a statement Saturday morning, saying the the school has increased patrols, and the door to door safety escort service has extended its hours to seven days a week, from 9pm to 5:30am. Watts also says the Blazer Express bus service is available from 5:30am to 9pm.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for Gaston’s arrest. If you have any information on Gaston’s whereabouts, call UAB police at (205) 934-4434.
