BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Two women in Birmingham are sharing their stories of sexual assault. They hope their stories will help young women and men avoid their fates.
The program is called Fear 2 Freedom. Dozens of students at Birmingham-Southern College learned what they can do to prevent sexual violence.
Dr. Brooke Bello and Rosemary Tribble shared their stories of rape and human trafficking.
They also told students they can help by letting victims know they are loved.
“I feel like hearing these stories and having these women that have survived it – as a woman and a college student, it really inspires me to give back,” said Julia Templeton.
Organizers say once a victim goes to the hospital, their clothes are taken for evidence and they are left with nothing. That’s why organizers packed toiletries and a “Freedom Bear” with an inspiration note to show support for the victims.
