ALABASTER, Ala. (WIAT) – A Birmingham Police Department employee arrested earlier this month is now charged with rape.
Joshua Herbinger, 29, was arrested earlier in October and charged with four counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old. Herbinger was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree rape, according to a release from the Alabaster Police Department.
Herbinger is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $60,000 bond.
Alabaster police say the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed.
Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards says Herbinger has worked with the department since 2006. Edwards says the Birmingham Police Department is conducting its own internal investigation.
He says Herbinger was a patrolman but was placed on administrative assignment following his first arrest.
Anyone with information pertaining to Herbinger’s case is asked to call the Alabaster Police Department at 205-663-7401 and ask to speak to Detective Andrew Pounds.
