BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A West End restaurant is at the center of more controversy. Several months ago, police arrested the owner of Good Friends Chinese and Seafood Restaurant.
A customer says the owner shot at her for complaining about a roach in her food.
On Monday, the restaurant tried to reopen under new management.
However, the building inspector didn’t let that happen, because the restaurant lacked a fire inspection.
People in the neighborhood say Monday’s development is good news, because they want the place shut down for good.
“We don’t want him here. He shot at a 19-year-old girl,” Kelvin Patterson said. “If we have to pull the SCLC in here, we gonna get this man out of this neighborhood.”
The new owner is Amy Ching, the daughter of the man accused of firing at the customer in February.
Ching tells WIAT 42 her father will play no role in the operation of the restaurant now. She says she will reopen the restaurant as soon as the fire inspection is complete.
