2 arrested in Etowah County for trafficking methamphetamine

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – Two people were arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine in Etowah County, according to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

Twenty-four-year-old Edger Jesus Cervantez and 22-year-old Zanda Lee Gonzalez were charged with one count of drug trafficking.

Etowah County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Natalie Barton says the two were arrested following a routine traffic stop by an officer with the Boaz Police Department.

The officer found one ounce of meth during the traffic stop, Barton says.

Investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Bryant Drive and found approximately four pounds of methamphetamine and one handgun. Barton says the methamphetamine recovered carries a street value of $150,000.

Cervantez and Gonzalez are being held in the Marshall County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.
