Tuscaloosa police searching for suspect in off-campus assault of Univ. of Alabama student

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – Tuscaloosa police say they are searching for a suspect who assaulted and attempted to kidnap a University of Alabama student Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 8:35 p.m. on 10th Avenue as a 21-year-old female was walking down 10th Avenue. As she was walking she was approached by a black male driving a dark SUV.

Police say the suspect grabbed the victim by the arms and tried to force her into his vehicle.

The victim and the suspect began fighting and witnesses began yelling at the suspect, according to police. Eventually, the victim was able to escape and the suspect fled the scene.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene and released.

Police say the suspect may have traveled south through a nearby apartment complex.

The suspect is believed to be a black male with a dark complexion between 25-35 years old, around 6 feet 2 inches tall and between 250-300 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a dark jogging suit and was driving a dark SUV, possibly a 1998-2003 Dodge Durango.
