BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — It’s not even Thanksgiving, but already, some families are preparing for the big expense of Christmas.
However, if our eCO teams can make it through the winter holidays without busting their budgets, they could be that much closer to the $10,000 grand prize. The eCO Savings Race is heating up.
Race participant Roni Deal says, “Christmas always gets us very year, like we don’t know its coming.”
But this year, Alex and Roni have a plan. They are making a list and checking it twice to spend less on the people who are naughty and nice.
“We’re not going to spend as much as we would like on aunts, and uncles, and my dad, and everyone, just because every year I think we go overboard a bit,” Roni said.
That cutback even included their two sons. Alex says, “The kids are what gets you; you just spend, spend spend, so having a limit, and paying attention to it, that’ll help a lot.”
Over the past two months the Deals have been doing the deal financially speaking: paying down debt, living on a tight budget, and even finding a way to pay for their son’s dental braces when that came up unexpectedly.
“It’s not like every time life comes at you, you have to go further and further in the hole. We’ve at least stopped the bleeding, and can dig our way out,” Roni said.
