BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – As the nation prepares to mark Veterans Day, plenty of events and deals are scheduled across Central Alabama.
Birmingham’s Veterans Day Parade will start at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on 18th Street South and 8th Avenue North.
The Birmingham Zoo is offering free admission to all active and retired military from Nov. 10 through Nov. 11. Admission will be granted to those who present a valid military identification.
Veterans can ride for free on Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority buses on Veterans Day. Free rides will be given to those who present an active military identification, a VA Health card or a retired military identification card.
A Veterans Day ceremony is set to take place Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Park in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama State Parks are also offering free admission for veterans. All parks that normally charge a fee for admission will allow veterans to enter for free from Nov. 8 through Nov. 11.
A Veterans Day celebration will be held at 9 a.m.
A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Center Point.
