HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WIAT) – Hueytown police are still searching for several suspects after an armed robbery at the Burger King on Allison Bonnett Memorial Drive early Tuesday morning.
Police tell us an unknown number of robbers fired shots outside the fast food restaurant. Investigators found shell casings in the parking lot. The suspects then robbed employees inside and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police chased the car, which they tell us was recently stolen during a carjacking, into a Dolomite neighborhood. The suspects bailed out of the car and ran off.
Hueytown Police officers, Birmingham Police officers, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies used scent dogs to search streets, houses, and woods nearby.
Police tell us the dog’s lost the trail but officers found all of the stolen cash. They also recovered physical evidence from inside the stolen car.
Police believe the suspects are no longer in the Dolomite neighborhood and possibly left the area in a different car. They are now processing the physical evidence to try to identify the suspects.
Police said they are looking into the possibility this could be connected to other recent fast food robberies in Jefferson County, but say it is too soon in the investigation to make that connection.
