BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The DeKalb County Corrections suppervisor has been arrested on extortion charges.
Sherriff Jimmy Harris reports that 44-year-old Brian Scott Crowe allegedly extorted money from an inmate and used his position as corrections supervisor to bring contraband into the detention center.
Crowe was arrested after investigators followed up on information of suspicious activity. He was a long-time employee who previously served as a jail sergeant.
Sherriff Harris says, “It’s embarrassing to be in a position where I have to arrest one of my employees. I expect my employees to set a higher standard of conduct, and this case just shows that people can disappoint you. I have the greatest respect for the job I’m entrusted with and I expect my people to have that respect also.”
Crowe has been booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center. He is charged with first degree extortion and third degree promoting prison contraband. Bond has not been set at this time.
