Suspect arrested in theft of money intended for woman suffering from cancer

MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. (WIAT) – Mountain Brook police say they’ve arrested the person who stole $7,450 worth of money and gift cards that were collected for a woman in need.

James Murkeson, 27, is charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property. Murkeson worked as a security guard for RealtySouth, where employees had collected the money for a co-worker suffering from cancer.

Mountain Brook police say sufficient evidence was gathered throughout the course of the investigation to charge Murkeson, who owns Murk’s Protection Agency.

He’s being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $25,000 bond.
