Tuscaloosa police seeking 2 suspects in Sokol Park sexual assault

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – Tuscaloosa police are searching for two suspects in connection with a sexual assault on a running trail in Sokol Park that was reported to police in May of 2014.

Tuscaloosa police spokesman Lt. Kip Hart says the alleged assault happened around 8 a.m. on June 17, 2013. A 50-year-old woman told police she was jogging the trail and moved aside to let someone jogging toward her pass.

Hart says the woman claims as she stepped to the side she was struck from behind by another suspect and knocked unconscious.  When she regained consciousness, the second suspect was sexually assaulting her.

Hart says the woman was able to get free from the suspects and run away.

Hart says the first suspect is described as a 6-foot-2 black male with a muscular build and braided hair. He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and shorts.

The second suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion and muscular build standing between 6 feet 2 inches and 6 feet 5 inches tall.

Hart says the second suspect’s hair was in dreadlocks.

Anyone with information pertaining to the identity or whereabouts of the suspects is asked to contact the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit at 205-464-8690 or Crimestoppers at 205-752-7867.
